Chief Technology, Innovation & Digital Officer

Born in Palermo in 1970, Roberto graduated in Statistical and Economic Sciences before achieving a Master in Business Administration from LUISS Guido Carli in Rome in 2007.

Since October 2021, Roberto has been the Chief Technology, Innovation & Digital Officer for the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group.

After gaining experience with an IT services company of the Banco di Sicilia Group, Roberto began his professional career with the ENEL Group in 1992, in the field of Information & Communication Technology and Digital Innovation applied to the sectors of Network Control and Management of Electricity and of Generation (conventional and from renewable sources) along with Energy Management and Trading, which would continue until 2015 in roles of increasing responsibility. Roberto also actively participates in the international development initiatives of the ENEL Group, having been the Chief Information Officer since 2012 in the company ENEL Green Power, in various foreign countries and being responsible for the Group’s Digital Business Enabler.

From 2016 to 2019, Roberto was Chief Information & Technology Officer for the Alitalia Group, where he gained significant experience in the field of technological innovation and digital evolution in support of B2B, B2C and parallel highly-critical operational processes, guaranteeing their resilience. At the same time, he held the role of IT Board Member for the Skyteam Alliance.

In 2019, Roberto became Chief Information Officer for the Terna Group, where he initiated a path of evolution concerning the corporate information system that realises important elements of innovation linked to the Internet of Things, Edge Computing and the use of advanced wired and wireless connectivity systems with goal of guaranteeing the safety and resilience of the national electricity grid. Roberto also took on the role of ICT Board Member for the Digital Committee ENTSO-E (European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity).

In July 2020, Roberto accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer for the Olivetti company in the Telecom Italia Group, tasked with transforming the company into a reality of primary importance in the role of IoT solutions and Digital Payments for Small, Medium & Large Enterprises as well as the Public Administration.
