The FS Group for the mobility of the present and the future

The Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group is striving to create an ecosystem of sustainable mobility and integrated logistics that can count on interconnected and resilient infrastructure.

By investing heavily, improving services and promoting transport solutions that have less environmental impact, we intend to move towards a new business vision focused on responsible development that respects natural balances and creates lasting value for the entire community. By pursuing its business, FS thus contributes to Italy’s economic recovery, generating growth and job opportunities.

Sustainability is thus at the heart of the company’s values. This is the compass that points towards the way to meet the challenges of the future. First and foremost are those regarding climate change and energy transition.

In line with the Green Deal, and a good 10 years ahead of the target set by Europe, the FS Group intends to become carbon neutral by zeroing out CO₂ emissions to reduce its climate impact.

Sustainability at the heart of the Industrial Plan

In the 2022–2031 Industrial Plan, sustainability is a structural strategic factor and the guiding criterion for all actions.

The main objectives planned are: to encourage multimodal collective transport in order to be the first choice for travel at the expense of private vehicles; to enhance freight transport by rail; to integrate rail and road infrastructure and render them resilient; to increase the degree of energy autonomy.

FS Group aims to self-produce at least 40 per cent of its energy needs using renewable sources by installing photovoltaic and wind power systems in stations and railway areas.

The plan is accompanied by a redefinition of governance and a new organisational structure of the Group comprised of four Business Hubs.

Sustainability objectives and contribution to the UN 2030 Agenda
