The Children's Train departing from Platform 13

For the second year running, over 100 children and carers will travel from Rome to Pietrarsa to discover the railways and its trades.

On Sunday, 14 January 2024, the Treno dei Bambini (Children's Train) will depart from Roma Termini, a historic convoy bound for Pietrarsa with around 100 children on board who are currently guests of family homes and facilities dedicated to welcoming children in particularly fragile situations.

The initiative, launched in 2023, is the result of the collaboration between the FS Group and the many associations with which it works on a daily basis. It is a concrete act of support for the most fragile communities, with particular attention on children, young people, and their families.

Aboard the train, an engineer, a trainmaster and a station manager, together with volunteers from the FS Group and Fondazione FS, will accompany the young guests, telling them about their jobs and answering their many questions, to introduce them to the world of the railways through their stories and tales.

Once they arrive at Pietrarsa Station - S. Giorgio a Cremano, the young travellers will be taken to visit the National Railway Museum, a unique place located right on the first stretch of railway built in the peninsula, marking the start of the history of Italy's railways. The children will visit the collection dedicated to historical rolling stock distributed in the old pavilions of the Bourbon works that once housed the departments specialised in the various processes of the production cycle. There will also be interactive activities for the youngest children.

The Children's Train is part of the solidarity initiatives and awareness-raising campaigns on socially important issues, such as health and women's protection.
